Abstract
The potential for fire blight activity (PFA) was assessed according to the Billing System for the years 1983 to 1985 in the region where fire blight was first discovered in Poland in 1966 and for the years 1984 to 1985 in a new area in the center of the country.
In the new area the disease was first recognized in 1985 in several commercial orchards of apple and on wild pears and hawthorns.
Both regions are different in climatic conditions and phenology.
The results obtained were compared with observations on the actual disease occurrence.
Generally, it was found that the calculated PFA corresponded to the fire blight occurrence in nature, especially in the first part of the vegetation period.
The disagreements observed are discussed.
