Abstract
The reaction of vegetable seeds to temperature was tested in temperature controlled boxes and sand beds.
The temperature reaction can be parameterized using the germination rate (fig. 1) or the germination period (fig. 2). Using the germination rate and the Feddes function the germination period of vegetable species as a function of temperature is outlined (fig. 3).

Simulating the actual temperature in natural soils, in trays or in greenhouses with a regression model, the germination period and the corresponding energy demand (Damrath, 1980) were calculated.
