Abstract
Every technical composting process sets emissions free, regardless of the materials being treated.
These emissions can be classified according to at least three paths they can take:
These emissions can be classified according to at least three paths they can take:
- water (leachates, condensates)
- soil (compost)
- air (odours)
The different relevant emissions, their analysis and their treatment are related to these paths.
The locations and/or the place of generation of the emissions are determined by the processes shown in the flow sheet of a composting plant.
receiving area – leachates, odours
pre-treatment – leachates, (e.g. rotting dew) (elimination of metals, condensates from exhaust mixing, homogenizing treatment, odours screening)
post-treatment – odours, dust (screening, elimination of glass etc.)
end product – heavy metals, org. pollutant (compost)
In the following the results of an investigation of the effects of a composting plant on the environment, arising from emissions via the water, soil and air paths will be discussed.
