EFFECTS OF NO3, SO4 AND C1 RATIOS ON TOMATOES GROWN IN RECIRCULATING SYSTEM

Abstract
The present experiment was carried out to clarify the effects of different NO3, SO4 and C1 ratios in the root environment on yield and fruit quality of tomatoes grown in a recirculating system.
The concentrations ranged from 16 to 6, from 5 to 10, and from 3 to 13 mmo1/l, respectively, and the electrical conductivity(EC) was kept constant at 3.5 mS/cm.
Marketable yield did not differ.
Increasing SO4 and especially C1 decreased blossom end rot (BER), while increasing C1 caused more gold speck injury.
The shelf life was negatively affected by increase of SO4 and C1. Since both BER and gold specks were affected in the present experiment, it seemed that the Ca uptake and distribution into the fruits were affected by the anion ratios.
