Abstract
The nucleic acid sequence of arabis mosaic nepovirus (ArMV) coat protein gene has been determined and the deduced amino acid sequence compared with other nepovirus coat proteins.
It has been shown that the expression of the coat protein gene of plant viruses in transgenic plants is a powerful tool for breeding of virus resistant plants (Beachy et al.,1990). In this paper we describe the expression of the coat protein of ArMV in transgenic tobacco plants.
As ArMV is one of the causing agents of fanleaf disease in grapes, our main goal is the breeding of coat protein-mediated resistant Vitis vinifera. In this paper we also describe results obtained in our first transformation attempts with Vitis vinifera.
