Abstract
The antibacterial activity in vitro of a bacteriocin produced by Enterobacteria strain 17 was demonstrated against Erwinia amylovora : the causal agent of fire blight.
This antibacterial activity was further confirmed by greenhouse experiments and orchard experiments at Gorsem Research Station.

With the greenhouse experiment, the efficacy of this bacteriocin against E. amylovora was variable and lower than that of streptomycin; with the second experiment, the efficacy of the bacteriocin was comparable to that of streptomycin.

Prospective studies of bacteriocin formulations could certainly increase the bacteriocin efficacy.
This could be of significant importance in biological control instead of the streptomycin treatment.
