Abstract
Five rose cultivars were analyzed by using isozymes and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers.
Isozyme technique was not powerful enough to characterize the different cultivars.
Nevertheless, with only eight primers, all the cultivars could be distinguished by comparing differences in DNA banding patterns.
The RAPD technique allows rapid and relatively inexpensive fingerprinting of rose varieties, and is useful for identification and patent protection purposes.
