Abstract
Seeds of Sweet pepper (Capsicum annum L.) CV. Gedeon F1 were treated with 3 % KNO3, CaCL2, K2HPO4, K2SO4 for 144 hours or fluid drilled in an aerated water for 48 or 72 hours in order to increase rate, uniformity, and percentage of pepper seeds germination.
Seed priming or fluid drilling in an aerated water (Fd) and leaching has generally proved successful in increasing final emergence percentage (FEP), seedling leaf area and seedling dry weight.
KNO3 – primed Gedeon seed had higher germination percentage, accelerated leaf area development and increased seedling fresh weight than all the other treatments and control.
CaCl2, and KNO3 primed seed and leaching for 24 hours gave the heighest final emergence percentage and seedling length.
CaCl2 has reduced the time required for germination than all the other treatments and control.
