Abstract
A pot experiment was carried out during 1994 and repeated twice in the laboriaties of the National Research Center and the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University.

The study was under taken to investigate the effect of stepwise low temperature and foliar application of some chemicals and acclimatization on protection pepper seedlings.
Pepper seedlings were either acclimated to chilling by exposure to a stepwise low temperature treatment regime or separately sprayed with mefluidide, cycocel or ethephon.
Thereafter, treated and untreated seedlings were exposed to a course of chilling at 5°/5°C DW for 7 days.

Both acclimated and sprayed chilled seedlings showed less electrolyte leakage, transpiration and leaf damage compared to the untreated chilled plants.
Higher chlorophyll contents, number of fruits and were associated with those treated chilled plants in comparison with the untreated chilled ones.
All treated treatments increased the ability of pepper seedlings to indure chilling injury.
