Abstract
The location of cultivars in apple orchards determines their yield and fruit quality and is affected by a number of factors.
The pattern established for cultivar location must guarantee satisfactory fruit set each year.
The distance between the cultivar to be pollinated and the pollen donor cultivar can be a maximum of 10–15 meters, and depends on the cultivation system of the orchard.
In an intensively managed orchard a smaller distance is more valid.
Triploid cultivars can be planted in a ratio of maximum 20% and in a maximum of 10-metre wide blocks.
When locating cultivars, an appropriate harmony must be made between effective pollination and variety-specific production.
Mainly because of these reasons the use of Malus pollinizing is necessary.
