Abstract
The recent global expansion in asparagus production and associated increase in international trade has highlighted the fact that there is increased risk from disease spread, and this is exacerbated by the extremely narrow genetic basis of cultivated asparagus.
A workshop was conducted at this IX International Asparagus Symposium to work toward the establishment of fully documented working collection of asparagus accessions.
A site suggested for the collection was the Crop and Food Research Germplasm Conservation Center, Christchurch, New Zealand.
