Abstract
Sprinkler irrigation performance has been described by statistical coefficients, which quantify the application uniformity.
The non-uniformity sprinkler irrigation effects on yield responses can be affected by soil water redistribution, since the soil moisture distribution on irrigated area can be more uniform than applied depth of water.
This study was conducted to evaluate the crop response to non-uniformity of irrigation.
The sprinkler irrigation was performed applying water at four uniformity levels, expressed by Christiansen Coefficients (CUC) of 94, 86, 66 and 58%. These levels were obtained by varying the sprinklers spacing.
The grain yield changed between uniformity treatments (2333, 2759, 2423 and 1501, respectively), but the greater uniformity did not lead to higher yield.
The vegetative growth, expressed by leaf area index, presented direct relation with irrigation uniformity.
These results showed that vegetative growth was more affected by irrigation uniformity than grain yield.
