Abstract
Most of areas cultivated with mango in the world for commercial purposes must rely on technologies for obtaining reasonable profits and sustainability.
Irrigation is fundamental not only for giving good physical conditions to the soil for plant water uptake and transpiration, but also for the advantage of being used as means of nutrient application.
In tropical regions farmers are still using empirical guidelines for irrigation management.
Models for irrigation schedule are available for any crop, however soil-water-plant parameters must be adjusted or found to give reliability to these techniques.
Some of these parameters such as root distribution, depth and root uptake have been already adjusted or found, but parameters like crop evapotranspiration and wetted area have been a problem in calculations of amount of water to apply to mango crop.
Fertirrigation is also used by most of mango producers.
There are some questions to be answered about fertirrigation for mango mainly concerning the right time to apply the most required macronutrients and the amount of nutrient to be applied.
Therefore, this work focuses on the requirements for irrigation and fertirrigation for mango and makes a discussion about the available and unavailable technologies, their feasibility and use.
