Abstract
This paper discusses the technology transfer being adapted in the agriculture and agribusiness sectors for sustainability and economic growth.
It investigates the motives and achievements of technology transfer in the Caribbean and comes up with a generic agro-innovation model.
Empirical findings obtained and experience gained in Caribbean countries will be presented.
The proposed model adopts the national innovation system approach that stresses the importance of interactions and interdependence between elements of the economy.
These elements are the key stakeholders including agro-firms, knowledge institutions and government agencies whose relationships are characterized by reciprocity, interactivity and feedback mechanisms.
The paper describes the development of, and explains the building components of the model.
The efficacy of using and evaluating the model is also discussed.
