Abstract
Amaryllis is well-known as a pot and garden plant, as well as a cut flower. ‘Tamla’ and ‘Baelok’ originated from the seedlings selected from the pollinated population of naturalized Amaryllis in Jeju, South Korea since 1996. In 1998, two new varieties were selected from six high quality lines.
They were named ‘Jekyo H-7’ and ‘Jekyo H-10’. Studies on their characteristics were conducted for three years (1999-2001). ‘Tamla’ has a bright reddish-orange flower with a white star at the center.
The plant is 42.5 cm in height, flowers are 13.8 cm in diameter and there are four flowers per stem.
The vase life of the flowers is eight days.
When the plant was cultivated in an unheated greenhouse the natural flowering time was late April. ‘Baelok’ has a white flower with red stripes.
It is moderately cold-resistant.
Flowers are 13.9 cm in diameter, with four flowers per stem.
Plant height is 41.0 cm.
The vase life of the ‘Baelok’ flower is eight days.
When cultivated in a greenhouse without heating the plant flowered in early May.
In field cultivation, it is necessary to prevent Stagonospora curtisii Saccardo (red leaf spot), since it defoliates the plant during the rainy winter season.
