Abstract
Citrus growers need to be able to optimise fruit size to meet export specifications.
Ralex® a commercial GA3 formulation, can be used to suppress flowering in expected on-crop years, thus managing crop load and increasing fruit size at harvest.
The objective of this trial was to assess flowering and fruit size responses to Ralex® in the Sunraysia region of Australia.
Navel trees were sprayed with different Ralex® concentrations (0 ml, (Control), 100 ml, 150 ml or 200 ml.100 L-1) at five different times between May and July, 2003. Data on flowering indicated that Ralex application on 6 May at 200ml.100 L-1 reduced the proportion of leafless inflorescences by 62% as compared to control.
Ralex application at 200 ml.100 L-1 caused an increased in proportion of larger fruit size by 47% as compared to control.
