Abstract
Pesticide activity of the agricultural detergents SU-120 and Tecsa® Fruta were evaluated on Tetranychus urticae (Koch) and Myzus persicae (Sulzer). Several concentrations of SU-120 were applied onto nymphs I and II, and adult M. persicae in Petri dishes in a Potter tower.
For Tecsa® Fruta, the aphids were submerged in a musseline cloth in the solutions.
Mortality (no motility) was measured in both cases at 24 h.
On T. urticae, mortality was evaluated on eggs and adult females adhered to a double sided scotch tape on glass slides, which were submerged 5 s in several concentrations, let to dry 15 min, and taken to 27°C and 70% RH. Mortality of females and eggs was evaluated at 24 and 144 h, respectively.
Both detergents showed a direct relationship between concentration and mortality of the two species.
SU-120 at 2.5% caused near 70% mortality on M. persicae adults and nymphs.
Tecsa® Fruta at ≥5% on adults obtained ≥85% mortality, and on nymphs, ≥2.5% solutions caused >70% mortality.
SU-120 had a greater effect than Tecsa® Fruta to control eggs and adult T. urticae females.
Best control was obtained with both products on adult females, which required ~ 1.5-2.3x less detergent to reach the LC50. Detergents are an interesting alternative to control these polyphagous pests.
