ASPECTS OF PV/T SOLAR SYSTEM APPLICATION FOR VENTILATION NEEDS IN GREENHOUSES

Abstract
Many times during the year the high quantity of radiation has a negative effect on greenhouse cultivation both in irradiance and temperature and its reduction is necessary.
In this paper the use of hybrid Photovoltaic/Thermal (PV/T) systems with dual operation (water or air) heat extraction mode is suggested for greenhouse ventilation.
These systems can be mounted on a part of the roof providing simultaneously electricity and heat.
The heat extracted from the PV modules can be stored and surplus electricity can be stored in batteries (or sent to the grid) for later use.
In PV/T system applications the heat removal fluid can keep the PV modules at lower temperatures resulting in satisfactory electrical efficiency.
The PV modules provide electrical energy all year round for fans, window-opening motors etc.
During summer, the heat extraction is by air, which is conducted outside through roof openings for ventilation, as external air enters to the greenhouse through the lateral windows.
During winter, the heat extraction is achieved by water, which can be stored and circulated during the night through the heat exchangers inside the greenhouse.
The design and performance of the dual type PV/T system is presented and application aspects are included.
