Abstract
The study performed in the period of 1972 to 1975 on the isolated main capsules of the individuals belonging to the families of the Arya I and II populations of Papaver bracteatum, proved the following Facts: The wheather of the year has no influence on the alkaloid level.
Qualitative and quantitative differences can be found in the alkaloid content.
The alkaloid-level variation differs significantly from the normal-frequency distribution which indicates a genetic foundation of chemical differences.
This is also proved by studying the descendants of 20 families: the differences in active substance content were inherited.
It is existing a proved favoruable positive correlation between the active matter level and the size of the main capsule.
