EMPLOYMENT OF STABILITY INDEXES TO ASSESS INTERACTION GENOTYPE ENVIRONMENT (G X E) IN VITIS VINIFERA

Abstract
Genetic improvement procedures find one of their main difficulties in quantifying the contribution of genotype affecting the expression of quality-quantitative features in different growing environments.
The assessment of the interaction genotype x environment (GEI) is an instrument to estimate the stability behaviour by some stability indexes.
During a 4 year-period 1998-2001 yield/vine, cluster weight, bud fertility, soluble solid content and titratable acidity data were collected on 2 white-berried varieties, Chardonnay clones R8, 96 and SMA 123, and Sauvignon blanc clones R3, 377 and ISV1, grafted on teleki SO4 rootstock in 5 growing environments.
The analysis were carried out by using three different assessment procedures of stability: (1) analysis of variance (ANOVA), (2) analysis of linear regression (b) and (3) Wrickes ecovalence index (Vi). In the ANOVA model the environments control proved significant effects in both cultivars.
GEI was significant in Chardonnay for bud fertility and titratable acidity; in Sauvignon blanc for yield/vine and cluster weight.
In Chardonnay, bud fertility was stable for both Vi and b for the clone R8 while for titratable acidity for the clone 96. In Sauvignon blanc yield/vine was stable for both indexes for ISV1 and R3 clones while cluster weight was stable for both Vi and b for ISV1.These indexes can suggest the clone composition within a cultivar, to produce a wine with basically prearranged characteristics.
