Abstract
The physiological responses of grape roots under CdCl2 stress are different among different cultivars.
In this study, the experiment was carried out with the cutting seedlings of Zana and Autumn Royal (Vitis vinifera L.) under 0.5 mM CdCl2 treatment via hydroponics.
The changes in the activity of root, the activity of H+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase in plasma membrane (PM), and the malondialdehyde (MDA) content after the CdCl2 treatment were studied.
The results showed that after 16 hours of treatment in 0.5 mM CdCl2, the root activity and plasma membrane ATPase activity of both cultivars decreased and their root MDA content both increased.
Each cultivar was damaged to a different degree: between the two grape cultivars, the decrease range of root activities and the increase range of MDA content of Autumn Royal were 47.59 and 62.29% respectively, and those of Zana were 37.54 and 28.45%. The decrease range of root activities and the increase range of MDA content of Autumn Royal were higher than those of Zana, so Autumn Royal was more affected and more damaged by cadmium stress, while the root of Zana was less sensitive and demonstrated better endurance under the CdCl2 stress than that of Autumn Royal.
