Abstract
Vranac is an autochthonous grape cultivar of Montenegro, being of significant importance for Montenegrin economy.
Grapes of this cultivar have been used for the production of red wine of top quality, very appreciated on the domestic and foreign market.
Clonal selection of Vranac started in 2004. After conducting mass positive selection those genotypes with the best characteristics were selected.
After virus testing procedure (ELISA, PCR, Indexing) five of them were included in further clonal selection.
During the period 2007-2009, an ampelographic evaluation of clone candidates was performed, including mechanical analyses of the grape cluster and berry, uvometric research, yield and quality of grape and must.
Obtained results showed significant variation of tested properties in selected master vines, which outperformed the average population of Vranac, in certain properties and charac¬teristics.
