NEW APRICOT CULTIVARS BRED AT THE CORVINUS UNIVERSITY OF BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

Abstract
Apricot breeding at the Corvinus University of Budapest Faculty of Horticulture Science has been pursued for sixty years.
The main purpose of our breeding activity is development of cultivars with very early or very late ripening time.
As the result of the former breeding efforts four cultivars developed at the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding are registered in Hungary.
Cultivar ‘Budapest’ ripens by the end of the season. ‘Harmat’, ‘Korai zamatos’ and introduced cultivar ‘Early Samarkand’ ripen very early.
Two years ago three new cultivar candidates – ‘Corred‘, ‘Corfirm’ and ‘Corlate’ – were submitted for cultivar registration to the Hungarian Central Agriculture Office.
Origin of cultivars: ‘Corred’ (seedling code: H-7/1 (‘Mamaia’ × H-20/79/1; 20/79/1 = ‘Komsomolec’ open pollination), ‘Corfirm’ (seedling code: H-5/47 (‘Bergeron’ × ‘Baneasa 4/11’), ‘Corlate’ (seedling code: H-10/10 (‘Kech-psar’ open pollination).
