Abstract
ATS at full bloom and ethylene releasing compounds, such as e.g.
Ethephon, Flordimex at BCH 71-72 are two chemicals suitable for plum fruit thinning.
Mechanical thinning using the three rotors device ‘Baum’ designed by the University of Bonn was successfully employed at 400-500 rpm at a tractor speed of 5 km/h and reduced hand thinning from 180 hours up to 310 hours per ha when used alone.
A combination of mechanical thinning followed by ATS application further reduced labour of about 20 more hours per ha.
