Abstract
Cycads comprise the most threatened group of plants on earth.
The main objective of this experiment was to enhance horticultural methods for rare cycad conservation.
Nine container media (8 inorganic and 1 organic) were evaluated for their effects on growth of Zamia pumila. Coarse silica sand proved to support the best growth, followed by a standard organic container media.
These results show the great importance of medium choice for conservation horticulture of rare cycads.
