Abstract
To an economist, a commodity market relates to raw materials, such as metals, or primary agricultural produce, such as wheat, and for a market to be established and work all buyers and sellers must know the specification and variations in a product, and they all need complete access to the market information.
In this paper, I am using a wider definition of a commodity market where the most important factor of any product has become its price, but again all involved must know and understand the product.
For example we all know what to expect of a 9-cm, 1-L, or a 2-L Euonymus fortune Emerald n Gold and there is no need to, or benefit from paying, more than the average price.
Although we dont yet have price comparison websites for plants, the ease of comparing prices from different suppliers means that there tends to be little variation.
We are close to perfect market equilibrium for such products.
