Abstract
Pyrethrum, like all pesticides, is under continuous review by the US EPA for human safety and environmental impact.
Pyrethrum growers and manufacturers has formed the Pyrethrin Joint Venture (PJV) and Non-Dietary Exposure Task Force (NDETF) to conduct the necessary studies to satisfy the EPA requirements and has also participated as members of other related Task Forces such as the Consortium for the Advancement of Pyrethroid Human Risk Assessments (CAPHRA) to conduct studies for common data requirements.
PJV successfully conducted studies to enable pyrethrum to have the classification that “Pyrethrins are not likely to be carcinogenic to humans at doses that do not cause mitogenic response in the liver/cell proliferation.” PJV is currently conducting many studies, including the Crop Residue Program, the Pyrethrins Product Stewardship Program and ecotoxicity studies and will continue to support all possible pyrethrins products and use patterns in the USA.
