Abstract
Pyrethrum has been a preferred active ingredient in pest control products in a variety of markets and delivery systems for many years.
Pyrethrins are found in consumer products, professional pest control products, pet products, products for use in the backyard and garden, specialty agricultural products, and mosquito adulticiding products used in the vector market.
The unique properties of pyrethrum such as fast knock and kill of a broad range of insects, rapid degradation in sunlight and long history of approved use has seen the development of some 1,500 registered labels in the US market alone.
There are continuing new product development and uses for pyrethrum, including residential mosquito misting systems, organic farming and microencapsulation for use in food processing plants and warehouses.
There are also other properties of pyrethrum that may lead to new and more unique products in the immediate future.
