Abstract
We have recently found that a GDSL lipase catalyzes the acyltransferase reaction for the ester-linkage formation in the biosynthesis of natural insecticide pyrethrins in Tanacetum cinerariifolium. In cloning the enzyme gene, we found that several variants are present in the bud cDNA library, yet only one variant has been characterized.
Here, we expressed the lipase variants in Escherichia coli to evaluate their specific acyltransferase activity for the synthesis of pyrethrin I and II. One variant showed a significantly higher activity than the others.
