Analysis on planting patterns and industry status of Chinese jujube in Xinjiang

Chinese jujube is an economic plants originated in China with highly tolerating to drought and barren, resistant to salt, enjoying light.
In recent years, Jujube industry in Xinjiang has a swift and violent development with expansion of cultivated area from 41497 hm² in 2004 to 473672 hm² in 2012, accounting for 29.6% of the total area of the country.
The total output of jujube was achieved 1.45 million t and the output value was 10.7 billion yuan of RMB in 2012. This paper summarized the main planting patterns and characteristics, regional distribution of jujube in Xinjiang.
At the same time, the current situation, advantages for development and the existing problems of the jujube industry development in Xinjiang were analyzed.
Furthermore, it is also proposed that the further research work should focus on optimization of planting pattern, renovation and multiplex of variety, improvement of fruit quality, reducing production cost and simplify management techniques, in order to promote the sustainable development of jujube industry in Xinjiang.
