Abstract
The first occurrence of fireblight, caused by Erwinia amylovora (Burr.) Winslow et al., in Lower Rhine area in 1975 resulted in a number of organizational and practical measures against the disease in an important horticultural region.
The cooperation between different public services and private organisations and the success of the fight against fireblight are described.
