Abstract
Procedures based on grafting and tissue culture are described to determine whether specified abnormal ‘geranium’ cultivars are chimeras or infected with beneficial agents.

Beneficial graft transmissible agents were shown to be eliminated in meristem (bud-tip) culture and transmitted in petiole explant culture.
Chimeras were broken down in explant culture and although perpetuated in meristem culture, some chimeral rearrangement was observed.

These results are discussed in relation to the commercial exploitation of micropropagation.
