Abstract
In this experiment, we examined the effects of light quality during supplemental lighting (SL) on the growth and flowering in Cymbidium Peach Cocktail. For this experiment, tissue–cultured plantlets transplanted into 13.5-cm plastic pot, and then the SL started on June 2016. The night SL was provided installing the LED lamps over the bench in a greenhouse (GH), keeping the minimum temperature 16°C. The lighting time was set to 12 h from 16:00 to 22:00 and from 2:00 to 8:00 adjusting 80 µmol m‑2 s‑1 PPFD at the top of the plant.
Five types of LED lamps were used, as follows, blue (B: 470 nm of the peak wavelength), green (G: 530 nm), yellow (Y: 450+590 nm), red (R: 630 nm) and warm white (WW: 450+580 nm). The NO SL plot was as the control.
All plants were re-transplanted into 18-cm long plastic pots in April 2017. In October 2017, smaller shoots were removed from the second year-pseudobulb so that two larger shoots remained.
The final measurement was carried out in December 2018. Total fresh weights of the top (shoot) and roots were the largest under R-SL. Root fresh weight under no-SL was the fewest.
Leaf length was longest under no-SL and shortest under B-SL. Flower stem number under NO-SL was only 1.3, but the number under R-SL and WW-SL were 3.3, respectively.
Especially under R-SL, the total number of florets was also recoeded the maximum number then other plots.
In conclusion, R light promotes the growth and flowering responses in Cymbidium.
