Abstract
Field experiments were conducted in the Allium-Carrot Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh (warm area), Spices Research Sub Centre of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI), Lalmonirhat (dry area) and Norar Chak, Debhata, Shatkhira (saline area) for screening of 28 wild carrot relatives (CWR), 18 landraces or breeding stocks, and two check cultivars to advance carrot pre-breeding in Bangladesh.
All of the growth and seed production parameters showed significant differences among the CWR lines compared with the check cultivars in all areas.
The highest germination (65.23%) was found in treatment combination of PI 652410 grown in BAU Mymensingh conditions, and the lowest germination (10.33%) was in treatment combination PI 652235 grown in dry conditions.
Other growth parameters of this experiment varied significantly among growing locations, accessions and genotype-environment combinations.
The maximum root yield ha-1 during harvest (28.18 MT) was measured in PI 652410 grown in BAU conditions; whereas the minimum yield (1.98 MT) was found in treatment combination PI 652398 grown in saline conditions.
