Abstract
The methodology of the physiological method Thermotest was developed and improved for samples of cultivated and wild carrots.
The semi-lethal temperature of water treatment of carrot seeds was found to be 58°C at an exposure of 20 min.
The method is cheap and easy to reproduce, while at the same time it allows qualitative differentiation of samples by heat resistance in the laboratory in a short time and identification of samples with the highest resistance.
This method simplifies the process of selecting source material for breeding heat-resistant carrot cultivars and reduces the amount of field work.
A part of the wild carrot collection from the French carrot genetic resources repository Carrot and Other Vegetable Apiaceae (Institut Agro, Angers, France) was tested using the method Thermotest. Based on the data obtained, a classification of heat resistance of wild carrot samples was created, which includes 5 resistance groups based on the germination of the experimental material before and after heat treatment of seeds.
