Abstract
The paper presents the main agronomical and pomological properties of the most cultivated apricot cultivars in Serbia (‘Hungarian Best’ – control, ‘NS-4’, ‘Zaklopačka Rua’ and ‘Roxana’), as well as the characteristics of cultivars that are represented to a lesser extent or are in the testing phase (‘Aurora’, ‘Goldrich’, ‘Betinka’ and ‘Candela’). The cultivars were grafted on a Myrobalan seedlings (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) rootstock and grown with a planting distance of 5.5×3.5 m (520 trees ha-1). The experiment was carried out during the third, fourth and fifth year after planting (years 2017-2019). Results showed that average time of the beginning of flowering for ‘Hungarian Best’ was March 3. The ‘Betinka’, ‘Aurora’ and ‘Goldrich’ had earlier beginning of flowering (1-3 days), while ‘NS-4’, ‘Zaklopačka Rua’ and ‘Roxana’ bloomed 2-3 days later than the control.
The beginning of the ripening of the ‘Hungarian Best’ was in July 9th. The ‘Betinka’, ‘Candela’, ‘Goldrich’ and ‘Aurora’ had for 2-25 days earlier ripening time, whereas the later ripening time for 4-7 days was found in ‘Zaklopačka Rua’, ‘NS-4’ and ‘Roxana’ in comparison with control.
In the third year after planting, the highest yield was observed in ‘Goldrich’ (9.84 kg tree‑1) whereas absence of yields was found in ‘Betinka’ and ‘NS-4’. In the following i.e., the fourth year after planting, the damages caused by spring frost before flowering were evident.
The damages of flower buds ranged from 22 to 25% (‘NS-4’, ‘Zaklopačka Rua’ and ‘Hungarian Best’), up to 100% (‘Aurora’ and ‘Goldrich’). In the 5th year after planting, the yield per tree ranged from 4.3 kg (‘Candela’) to 19.1 kg (‘Betinka’). The largest fruits and the highest soluble solids content were observed in ‘Zaklopačka Rua’ (88.42 g), and the smallest in ‘Aurora’ (48.04 g). The highest and similar flesh rate was observed in ‘Zaklopačka Rua’ and ‘NS-4’, whereas the lowest values were found in ‘Goldrich’, ‘Betinka’ and ‘Hungarian Best’ with no significant differences among them.
