Abstract
Changing to soilless cultures gives the grower new possibilities for mechanization, utilization of space, energy and labour saving and last but not least the way of growing.

Research is done to fit the mechanized lettuce growing system for other once over harvestable crops and developing and improving a hoist system for a.o. strawberries.

Utilization of space can be increased by growing in wider beds and on rolling tables but also by extending of the plant raising period.

All changes in the organization of the nursery has its economical consequences, which differ by growing different crops.
