Abstract
Cultivar groups in Cucumis melo L. are presented according to the classification Grebensckikov (1985) as convarieties. "Carosello" is a peculiar vegetable from S. Italy used as cucumber, but belonging to convariety adzhur (Pang.) Grebenšcikov, a group of vegetable melons.

The use of unripe fleshy fruits of several crops as a vegetable is discussed and provided with examples.
