Abstract
Tremendous variety of soil-climatic conditions in USSR determines the wide range of demands made to industrial apricot assortment of each natural area.
Namely this determines the breeding objectives to create new varieties.

Adaptability degree of cultivars being bred or tested should be firstly in the centre of attention.
A modern industrial variety must be well adapted to alterating environmental conditions.
On the one hand, this will provide it with sufficiently high fruiting stability, on the other hand with extensive area and high competition ability.

It is necessary to create a continuous conveyor of apricot production according to maturing terms of varieties, with duration not less than 1–1.5 months for all areas of growing this fruit crop.
Creation of early and late maturing varieties of apricot deserves a special attention.
Breeding of former ones would be of special value, for it allows to extend their acreage in regions of non-irrigated farming, using efficiently for this aim first half of summer period when moisture conditions are better.

In areas of Central Asia higher production of dried apricots of good product quality is an important point.
In northern areas being new for apricot culture and in the Far East increasing frost-resistance of all above-ground parts of plants is needed.
