Abstract
"Japanese apricot" (Prunus armeniaca L.) grown in Japan is closely related to "mume" (P. mume Sieb. et Zucc.). Japanese apricots are grown in northern areas, while mumes are adaptive in warmer areas of our country.
Japanese apricots are relatively resistant to diseases and fruit cracking, but not suitable for dessert use.
Therefore, we have been breeding Japanese apricots by crossing with European apricots to improve the quality.
Also, we are planning to try interspecific hybridization among apricots, mumes and Japanese plums for disease resistance.
