Abstract
The paper presents the data, main trends and prospects in breeding seed and clonal rootstocks for apricot.
It is reported that the clones Armenica vulgaris, Prunus cerasifera, Prunus domestica have been singled out in different countries as best seed and clonal rootstocks.
The breeding of slow growing dwarfish clonal rootstocks for apricot by remote hybridization is shown to be promising.
The breeding value of different species of Purnoideae for the reproducition of rootstocks for apricot is treated.
The donors which are readily reproduced by a vegetative method are listed.
The ways of improving a breeding process with the aim to produce new rootstocks for apricot are outlined.
