ALGUNAS CONSIDERACIONES DEL CLIMA EN COLOMBIA RELACIONADAS COM EL ROMPIMIENTO DE LA DORMANCIA
Regions located in eastern mountain slopes are the best, to successfully produce temperate fruits, where the temperature does not have too much influence on the breakinh of dormancy; more important is the exposure of the plants to darkness during 5 months (May to September).
The excellent production obtained in La Cocha-Nariño with Gloster, Golden Delicious, Ida Red, and Elstar varieties, show that the temperature of 7.2°C is not the only parameter for breaking dormancy in the tropics.
When the buds are exposed during the night to temperatures of 8–11°C and during the day of 15–1°C, caused by the scarce sunshine as Subundoy, Nuevo Colón and La Cocha (Nariño), this temperaure is accumulated by the buds, besides the continual humidity around the buds prevent deep dormancy.
