Abstract
The european red mite Panonychus ulmi is one of the main pests of apple trees in the South of Brazil.
This pest attack varies according to apple cultivars.
A study was carried out aiming at evaluating the influence of the cultivars Gala and Golden Delicious on P. ulmi development and reproduction.
The trial was conducted under laboratory condition, using chambers set at 21°C, 83% of relative humidity and 14 hours of photophase.
Mites were individualised and kept in leaf disc on wetted filter paper.
Results showed that there was no variation in the mite evolutive cycle considering the tested cultivars.
The cultivar Golden Delicious, however, presented best conditions for mature mites development, since their oviposition period, number of eggs/female, fecundity, fertility and longevity are favoured.
