Abstract
A first paper on this subject was published at the symposium on computer modelling in Fruit Research and Orchard Management in Hohenheim in 1985. In this paper (Acta 184) the general question:

" How to built a microcomputer based management system for fruit growers ? " is discussed.

Since then the development of the Fruity management programm has continued and the programm is now in use in practice.

In this paper the problem of choosing a good method of system analysis is discussed.
Because we think traditional software development methods are not flexible enough to develop practical programs in a short time, we started using the prototyping method.
The approach we followed leads us to a non traditional method of system analysis.
We call this method " structured prototyping ". A brief layout of this method is given and the differences compared to the traditional form of system analysis are given.
