Abstract
Four groups of 90 Wistar rats per sex were exposed by inhalation to 0, 3, 30 and 90 ppm methyl bromide for 6 hr/day, 5 days/wk for 29 months.
At a level of 90 ppm treatment-related effects were observed that consisted of reduction in body weight gain, decreased absolute brain weight, hyperkeratosis in the oesophagus and the forestomach, and increased mortality associated with an increased incidence of haemothorax, myocardial degeneration and thrombi in the heart.
At all levels tested, methyl bromide induced degenerative and hyperplastic lesions in the nasal mucosa.
The test substance did not induce tumours.
