Abstract
Five genes are hypothesized to control orange flower color.
They are P, Or, Sa, W and I. The recessive oror with the dominant P, Sa, W and recessive ii gives orange flower color.
The W gives colored flowers, and ww gives white.
The homozygous recessive w is epistatic to all other genes.
The I dilutes and ii intensifies the flower color in the presence of dominant Sa. The Or, I and an allele sa have not previously been identified.
The anthocyanin analysis results showed that the orange flowered phenotype containing only pelargonidin.
