POSITIVE HETEROTIC EFFECTS FOR °BRIX IN HIGH SOLID F1 HYBRID CHERRY TOMATOES.

Abstract
In a partial diallel cross design, involving 3 indeterminate Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium accessions and 8 determinate high solid cherry tomato inbred lines ranging between TSS=4.4 and TSS=10.1, hybrids were ranging between TSS=7.1 to TSS=11.4. Analysis included selfs of 11 parent lines and 28 reciprocal heterozygous indeterminate hybrids.
Partioning of significant effects showed 59% general combining ability effects 28% specific combining ability effects and 13% specific reciprocal effects.
Regression of the mid parent °Brix on the F1 hybrid °brix indicated a consistent increment of 1.5% °brix over the whole range of parent values.
These results suggest the merit of cherry tomatoes to contribute to soluble solids yield per unit area in F1 hybrid processing tomatoes by complementary gene action and favorable direction of the cross.
