Abstract
A decision support system for production planning in horticultural firms has successively been developed.
The program has been used by Trädgårdsutveckling AB, an extension firm owned by the Swedish growers’ organization (TRF), and in recent years also by a number of other customers.
The experiences from their planning of numerous firms have been used gradually to revise the program.
The first versions of the program were only made for planning of potplant crops.
In these versions a one-year cyclical model was used.
However, when the resolution of the system was improved and when it was modified for use with greenhouse vegetables, cutflowers and outdoor crops, it became apparent that the cyclical model had too many disadvantages.
Therefore, it was replaced by a non-cyclical model.
