Abstract
Three cultivars of cantaloupe were tested during two successive seasons, 1990 and 1991 under sandy soil conditions at Kassasin Hort.Res.Station.Perforated and non-perforated tunnels were used beside, mulch and non-mulch with black polyethylene.
Plant height, average fruit weight, and total soluble solids were enhanced by using perforated tunnels in all cultivars used.
Mulch treatment resulted in taller plants with higher early yield and thicker fruit flesh than non-mulch treatment.
Pancha F1 hybrid gave higher total yield, heavier average fruit weight, thicker fruit flesh than either cv.Galia or Polidor.
The most promising treatment was growing cv.
Pancha under perforated polyethylene tunnels and black polyethylene mulch.
