Abstract
Trials of tomato seedling media were carried out in the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC). The compound mixtures with peat moss were: vermiculite, sand and perlite.

Two irrigation methods were applied, and two different types of containers were used in order to determine their effect on the behaviour of tomato seedlings under each condition.
Peat + sand + vermiculite medium (1:1:1) gave the best results.
Rockwool cubes gave better results than tray containers.
Sub-irrigation was more effective than spray irrigation.
